Mariano Rivera Blows the Game in the Ninth

Derek Jeter slides in to second base safely, with a fifth-inning double.

LF- Matsui, 0-4
C- Posada, 1-4 (2B)
DH- Phillips, 0-4
2B- Cano, 2-4 (1B, 1B, 2R)
1B- Cairo, 1-4 ( 2B, R)

Yankee Pitching:

Wright- 8H, 4R ( one unearned), BB, K, 3IP

Jaret Wright was pretty miserable through his three innings of work, giving up 8 hits and four runs. He threw 70-80 pitches and was pulled in the fourth inning.

The Yankees down 4 to 0, Scott Proctor replaced Wright and pitched 3 and a third masterful innings, giving the Yanks a chance to come back.

Derek Jeter had three hits tonight, one was a two-run single which gave the Yanks a 5 to 4 lead.

Mariano Rivera blew his first save of the season, giving up two runs in the bottom of the ninth. With runners on second and third (two outs), he gave up a two-run, game-winning single.

The Yankees did manage to get 11 hits off Johann Santana and the Twins bullpen.
