Mussina pitched his fifth straight solid start, going seven innings and giving up only one run. He did give up seven hits and two walks ( which placed him in a lot of jams) , but he just pitched around them. Farnsworth was very impressive, striking out three batters and lowering his ERA to .289. Mariano Rivera recorded his second save in two consecutive games.

Andy Phillips hit his first home run of the season (third of his career) to tie the game in the fifth. Jason Giambi hit a two-out, two-run home run to left field in the seventh inning.

Yankee manager, Joe Torre, and Blue Jay manager, John Gibbons, were ejected after arguing balls and strikes with the home plate umpire.
