Chien-Ming Wang labored through his five innings of work, getting out of some big jams with ground-ball-outs and double plays. Small pitched fairly well in his season debut, but left the game in the 8th with two runners on. Sturze and Myers could not get the final two outs and gave up some big RBI hits ( Myers gave up Ortiz's 3-run homer).

Johnny Damon went 0 for 4 in his return to Boston, this time as a Yankee. He was "welcomed" back to Fenway Park with resounding boos.

Robinson Cano was the only offense against Tim Wakefield (the Boston starter). He had a big two-out, two-run single in the 4th inning to give the Yankees a short lead. Cano bats higher then .400 against Boston over his first two big league seasons.
