Notes:

In the top of the first inning, Mark Loretta hit a shallow fly ball to left field. Matsui came in and slid awkwardly, trying to make the grab, but ended up hurting his wrist. He left the game, ending his 518 consecutive major league games played streak. Later, tests came back showing that Matsui had indeed fractured his left wrist, and will be out of the lineup for at least three months. This is a terrible blow to the Yankee lineup, since Matsui has driven in over 100 RBIs every year, and is one of the Yankees best ( and most reliable) clutch hitters. Yankee general manager says that Matsui may be out for an entire season, depending on how quickly his wrist heals. Hideki Matsui will have surgery on his wrist later today.

Yankee pitching wasn't great, allowing 13 hits and 6 walks. Ron Villone gave up the go-ahead run to the Red Sox in the seventh inning, after Bernie Williams failed to catch a fly ball. Chacon, Proctor, and Rivera also gave up one run each to the Boston Red Sox.

Derek Jeter and Bubba Crosby had impressive nights- Jeter going 3 for 4 with 3 singles, a walk, a run scored, a run batted in, and 3 stolen bases. Crosby went 2 for 3 with a triple, single, stolen base, and a run scored. Damon and Crosby both made incredible catches in the outfield. Crosby reached over the left field wall to take a home run away from Mike Lowell. Damon stole an extra base hit away from Doug Mirabelli by reaching up, catching the ball, and slamming into the center field wall.
